Real Indian Curry, Five Minutes from Guro Digital Complex

If you're spending a day in the Guro Digital Complex area and craving something that isn't Korean, Aangan (아건 구디역점) is the answer. Run by South Asian owners who actually cook the food themselves, this is as close to a no-pretense neighborhood Indian spot as you'll find in Seoul.

What to Expect

Second floor, small room, Indian music playing. The space fits maybe twenty people comfortably, and it's decorated with enough care that you notice — brass accents, warm tones, the kind of effort that says someone wanted it to feel like something. It's not a big production. It's a lunch spot that happens to be genuinely good.

The food here is northern Indian and Nepali in style — thick curries, pillowy naan baked in a tandoor oven, rice dishes fragrant with whole spices. If you've never had Indian food before, think of it like this: rich, slow-cooked sauces that are deeply savory, sometimes creamy, sometimes tomato-based, almost always layered. Not scary. Genuinely warming.

One thing worth knowing upfront: the restaurant is certified halal. No pork, halal-certified meats. That makes it a rare find in this part of Seoul, and it's part of why the regulars here are so loyal.

What to Order

The lunch set is the reason the Guro office crowd keeps coming back. For 10,900 won, you get a curry of your choice, plain naan, turmeric rice, and a yogurt drink. Naan and rice are refillable. That's a full meal at a price that makes zero sense given the quality — grab it on weekdays while it lasts.

Mutton korma if you're going à la carte. It's the kind of dish that tastes like someone spent the afternoon on it — mild enough for heat-sensitive eaters, rich enough to feel like a proper meal. Pair it with plain naan (not the flavored versions, just plain — the bread here is good enough to stand on its own).

Gulab jamun for dessert if they have it. Soft cheese balls soaked in sugar syrup. It sounds strange, but it's one of those classic Indian sweets that converts people on the first bite. Order it.

Atmosphere & Vibe

This is a working-lunch restaurant on weekdays. The crowd is mostly office workers from the surrounding tech companies, a mix of Korean locals and South Asian expats who come here because the food actually tastes right to them — that's a meaningful endorsement. Weekday lunches between noon and 1 PM can get tight on seating, so either go early (11 AM when they open) or push it to after 1:30. Evenings are noticeably quieter.

The owners are warm. Multiple reviews mention it, and it's genuinely true — the place has the energy of a couple who want people to enjoy themselves, not just turn tables.
