A Gangnam Bakery That Actually Makes Baguettes Worth Crossing the City For

There are approximately one million bakeries in Seoul. Most of them sell the same pillowy white bread and sugar-glazed pastries. BAGUETTE_K. (바게트케이) is not that bakery.

What to Expect

This is a small takeaway spot in Yeoksam, tucked into a quiet side street off Teheran-ro. No seating, no frills. You walk up, you look at what's out, you choose, you go. The whole operation is very much built around doing one thing well — fermented-dough baguettes that actually smell and taste like the ones you'd get in a Paris side-street bakery, not a Korean approximation of one.

That funky, sour-yeasty aroma when you walk in? That's the fermentation. It's not off-putting — it's exactly the point. If you've had a good sourdough or a classic French baguette before, you'll recognize it immediately. The crust is crackly, the inside is chewy and open-crumbed. Seoul has plenty of nice bakeries. Baguettes this technically solid are rarer.

They bake daily, so what's on the shelf changes. Come early if you want the full selection. By late afternoon, things tend to run out.

What to Order

The plain baguette. Start here. It's the most honest test of what this place is doing, and it passes. Crispy outside, properly chewy inside, with that slightly tangy fermented depth. Take it home and eat it with butter. Don't overthink it.

The banana pudding. Yes, at a baguette shop. This is — and I say this without exaggeration — the best banana pudding I've had in Seoul. It tastes like it was made with bananas that were left to get properly ripe, the kind that are almost too sweet on their own. The flavor is deep and clean at the same time. Get one.

The almond croissant. Several people who've been here mention this unprompted, which is always a good sign. Flaky, well-caramelized, not overly sweet. A solid backup if the banana pudding runs out.

One heads-up: the baguette sandwiches are a little hit or miss. The bread-to-filling ratio is off — the baguette gets sliced thin, and the whole thing can feel slightly unbalanced. Skip it on a first visit unless you're specifically craving a sandwich.

Atmosphere & Vibe

It's a counter, basically. Small, functional, no Instagram setup. The owner is reportedly warm — there are a couple of mentions of being handed a free madeleine, which tracks with the neighborhood-spot energy this place has. It's not trying to be a destination cafe. It's a place where office workers from the Teheran-ro area swing by on their way in at 6:30 AM or grab something on a lunch break.

That said, the 13-minute walk from Seonleung Station is real. It's not a quick subway-exit grab. Plan for it, or take a cab. Worth it.

One Last Thing

Go in the morning if you can. The baguettes are freshest before noon, the selection is widest, and you avoid the awkward late-afternoon "we're almost sold out" shuffle. Pair it with coffee from the cafe reportedly right next door, and you've got a better breakfast than most of Seoul will have that day.

What People Are Saying

"Baguette K is local bakery specialised in baguette. I tried plane baguette and baguette sandwich (ham & cheese). Baguette taste ok chewy inside and crusty outside. Sandwich on the other side was disappointed, baguette are too thin compared to the ingredients they put in. I‘m pretty sure they could have made it wider. Price is also expensive compared with nearby sandwich places."

"It's a small to-go bakery where they make high quality baked goods daily. I tried their cannolé, and almond croissant which were both amazing. It's unfortunate that there were no seating but the owner was very nice and even threw in a free madeline! It's a must try bakery if you're in the southern part of Seoul."

"Take away place. Good price and has a great menu of baguettes. Scone was disappointing, but other pastries were okay. Thankfully there is a great coffee shop right next to it for coffee 👍"
